Getting ready to make the Christmas list and I'm considering adding one of these to thin the local coyote population. ###I know the tapes are great, but looking for opinions on the callers. ###Any advice is appreciated.

Johnny Stewart is one of the best electonic callers I've seen. ###I have a hunting buddy who uses one for 90% of his calls. ###I still can't seem to get away from the mouth calls. ###His has been bounced around in the back of the truck for about 4 years now and still works fine.
Battery life is better than most but it's pretty heavy if you're walking far from the truck. ###If it's really cold where you call, you'll appreciate the extra battery life. ###It also comes with a car lighter charger which is nice.
If you get it, go for the extra speaker wire. ###The one that comes with it is only 20' and you can get another 50' or 100'. ###This way you can get the caller further away from you and still control the volume.

A bunch of guys in my predator hunting club use the Johnny Stewart set. ###They love it. ###Most of them have gone the extra expense and gotten the remote unit.

Hogskin,
Check out the Fox Pro unit. It's been used by many on the Go Go Varmint board (http://www.varminthunters.com/forums/ggvg/index.html) and they all love it. Small. lightweight
Remote has mute button, volume up, volume down and selection switch to change sounds. Being able to change sounds and adjust level with a remote is a time saver. No cassettes to wear out or fumble with.

I have used a Johny Stewart tape caller outfit for about 8 years now and I always wonder why I spent over 100 bucks for such an "old technology" piece of equipment. ###Sure, it works OK but stringing wires, inability to select which sound I want, and 10 pounds of stuff just is not today's way to go.
I've had mine eat tapes and it does not work very well below 20 degrees F outdoors.
I wonder, also, when I go through the electronics department at our local stores around here, why can't someone come up with a portable CD player with remote control for hunters? ###No stupid wires to get get stiff in the cold. ###No more $20 tapes with the same sounds over and over again. ###When I put out my speaker and wires I can't help crashing through the weeds and I'm sure every critter within a mile is long gone. ###Some of the kid's boom boxes are very nice and only cost $59 - $99. ###In my hunting shack out at the farm I have a simple CD player that stays there all the time and it works perfectly at -10 degrees F. ###I guess that if a company would put out something like I'm thinking they would have to charge $500 and to get it in camo it would be $1000. ###Ha Ha.
That FoxPro unit looks very promising.

FoxPro works but it`s very repetious and it`s over priced.
You can make your own tapes with JS and also use it with the remote.
My unit works well in the cold and it`s easy to carry in the backpack I made for it.
