I've searched high and low for a good rifle and shotgun sling, one that wouldn't slip off my shoulder if I bent forward a little. After dropping my rifle and scope one too many times I was getting desperate. I had used the old leather slings, neoprene, the Butler Creek and Uncle Mike's slings but they still didn't work very good. I even sewed huge wooden buttons on my shirts and coats to try and stop the sling from slipping off my shoulder. All that got was weird looks from other hunters.

Finally the hunting gods smiled down on me the day I saw a Quake Industires Claw sling. I slipped it over my shoulder and bent over and it didn't even budge, it grabbed on just like a scared cat. Perfect. They even had a camo model.

$17.99 each from

The sling come with 2 Hush Stalker II swivels which are the best swivels out there for safety and quietness (see below info). The sling also comes in 5 different colors.

I also found one other sling item I had been searching for that same day. I hate squeaky sling swivels and I had been using Butler Creek's little rubber swivel do-hickeys that you slide over the swivel stud to quiet my swivels, but they were a pain in the butt to put on and clean around and they didn't hold up well to my abuse in the field.

My quest had lead to the Quake Industries Hush Stalker II Swivels. These swivels eliminate the squeak between studs and swivels by using ###DuPont® Delrin to do away with noise. Stronger than conventional quick-detach swivels and light. The weather-impervious Hush Stalker won't mar your favorite stock. Cross bolts are Teflon®-treated steel seated into counter-bored recesses with O-rings that prevent loosening. Made in USA. Sizes: 1" or 1-1/4" . $5.99 each at http://www.cabelas.com/

Please make sure you use a swivel that has a screw in retainer. The older push in swivels are notorious for getting pushed in while on your back and then allowing the swivel to come loose, resulting in a nasty fall for your rifle or shotgun and a possible accidental discharge of the gun if it's loaded.

I discovered the quake slings by accident and never used a sling that stuck to my shoulder better. I ordered a second one but my son claimed it so I guess I need to order another. I didn't like the swivels that came with them so I used old push disconnect jaquers I don't think they make anymore. Try one you'll never want any other kind.

I recently got the Quake sling also, like it way better than any of the neoprene slings. With the neoprene slings the things go bouncey bounce on your shoulder all day, real irratating to me. No real give in the Quake, feels like my leather sling I've used for 20 years but grips the shoulder better. Also really like it on my duck/turkey gun, not affected by water at all.

Hi Spectr17,

I have gone to the Kifaru rifle bearer system and with my lightweight hunting rifle I don't even have a sling on it. ###The rifle bearer system is used with either the backpack or day pack and it puts the weight of the rifle on the hips. ###It is also very quick to bring the rifle into position for a shot. ###You can check them out at

I also bought the Claw about 18 months ago for use on my Remington 7600. I chose it because it was one of the cheapest on the Cabela's website. To my surprise, it is also the most secure and comfortable sling I've owned (it's only my fourth sling).

I just happened into my local Big 5 Sporting Goods and they had this sling and the swivels. Don't remember the price but you can bet I will be going back tomorrow.............Thanks for the info. I had been looking for a sling.

Like everything else, I researched all slings available before purchasing, and decided on this as the one to buy. I wanted a quiet, light and comfortable sling for my elk rifle. Unfortunately, I spent the week hoofing up down mountainsides with a constant companion. The swivel on the bottom end(opposite from the pad) would emit a high pitched squeak every time I took a step. Now I prefer to install my sling backwards from most, with the pad on the buttstock end so the barrel points downward. So with it like this I was able to cover the squeaky end with my hand to cover the noise, but it would put a constant strain on my arm and hand, plus I had to always remind myself to keep it that way. I'm not saying that this is not a good piece of equipment, I'm just saying that in my particular instance, I am disappointed in this item. Just my opinion.

Picked one up the other day to replace a leather sling I wore out. Man these things are awesome. They don't even think about slipping. More comfortable than leather too. Thanks for the tip guys!

I bought one of those Safari Slings from Cabelas, hands free chest mount. In theory it appears it will work. I will be trying it out in Dec at Tejon POR

Crawdog,I buy bottles of Spruce and Cedar oil cover scent under the brand name Cronks.I find a drop on each swivel once a week stops all squeaking and don't add any foreign smells. I didn't like the swivels that came with the claw sling but a pair of quick disconnects like Bass Pro sells work well and the cedar oil keeps any noise away. This stuff is also great for running a patch down the bore with a little on to help cover the gunpowder or gun solvent smell.A drop or two on a cloth in your hunting clothes gives them a natural cedar or spruce smell.
