Well since we are only about 2-3 months out from hunting season my Achilles tendon decided to tear!!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/afraid_face.gif went down like someone cut my leg off. Im in a semi rigid cast and have to wear it for 3-4 weeks if theres no complications. I see an orthopedic on Tuesday to see if its a simple tear or something more complex. Anyone have this happen? Hope it wont affect the season too much.

Sierra,
I am so sorry to hear that. Did it just pop or were you doing something?
Good luck and let us know.

I was at work and took a bad step off a ladder. I didnt hear or feel a pop, I just fell instanly then a sharp pain to my heel area. Actually now in the rigid splint it doesnt hurt at all.

That sucks! Hope it heals fast, don't rush it though or ya may prolong the healing process.
At least you were not 10 miles into the wilderness on a solo pack trip.

a partial tear can be something you bounce back from quick, I did a few years ago and was back running in the sand after a rather short time, a full tear is something you might not ever recover from, though a full tear should have been diagnosed already.
keep us posted, also a lot depends on how quick your body bounces back from anything, some folks take a year to recover from a turned ankle, others are ready to hit it again in two days.

Did you pose the question to your doctor. Three years ago I dislocated my shoulder two months before deer season and asked the doc whether it would impact backpack deer hunting and got an anti hunting attitude. So what I'm saying is ask the backpacking question but maybe leave out the hunting aspect. By the way I dumped the doc cause of that attitude.

Not had what you do, but had achilles tendonitis. Man I could barely walk for about 3 months. I did a lot of foot stetches and throw away the shoes that were the cause.
Just take it easy, and let it recover fully otherwise you may miss awhole lot more hiking & hunting down the road. I'm praying you have a quick and complete recovery.

Hey Sierrafool,
Sounds promising if you are not in pain. Take your time or you will have to start over again.
I am just getting over this crazy sports hernia thing.
Try this tissue rejuvenator https://www.e-caps.com/za/ECP?PAGE=PRODUCT&...10047&AMI=10130 (https://www.e-caps.com/za/ECP?PAGE=PRODUCT&PROD.ID=4057&OMI=10130,10047&AMI=10130)
After turning 40 a few years back every thing seems to take forever to heal so I try all the different stuff.
Once your back and moving cycling is good for stretching the achilles.
Good luck

dang mate, that's a bummer...get well fast and remember you're not well when you think you are, it's when your tendon tells you. Keep all pressure off to recover faster.
Man, I am telling you, everything takes a lot more time to heal the older you get. Fell on my middle finger while pig hunting in February, still can't climb well.

Ed, Im sure you'll decide not to go also due to your sore back. Hell just sit back and do a few 12oz curls instead. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif Its too hot anyways!!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_flameout.gif

You think a sore back is going to keep me down. Heading for Az in 17hr 35 min!! Supposed to be a cold snap from Alaska coming through, highs in the low 60's. I will be doing those 12oz curls to keep myself hydrated. Hooking up with the famous "Coues" to do some real scouting on Sat. Sierrafool, I'll be sure and take some pics of a few waterholes covered in tracks for you! Ed F

Why don't you get one of those battery powered shopping carts from WalMart and camo it up?

They gave me a shoe insert now and I'm wearing it. It seem to support the ankle well, it doesnt hurt but feels weak.

Hey Sierrafool,
Here I was just trying to help out, now I am joining you. Last night all was good playing softball until I got one past the left fielder. The mind remembers what this old body used to do in this situation so rounding third to beat the throw to home I pulled this old hamstring http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley_sad.jpg . It sucks getting old even if you do it all right it may not end right.
It is a bit early to tell, but probably 2 to3 weeks before I can pick it up again.
Yea just ordered a new bottle of tissue rejuvenator today.
Good luck with the recover.
