Anybody see on the news tonight the square watermelons the Japanese guy developed so they'll fit better in the fridge? That ain't right, I don't want anybody messing with my fruit. Go ahead and alter corn or peas but PLEASE don't mess with my melons, they're just ###fine the way they are.
With square melons it would be too easy to slice them, you wouldn't have to wrestle them around on the kitchen table, almost loosing a few digits in the proccess. What would the seeds look like? How would you spit them?

Dang, now THAT's a poser! ###What are the ballistic properties of a square watermelon seed? ###Or for that matter, what the heck were they thinking when they made SEEDLESS watermelons? ###Where's the fun in that?

I seen em Jesse, but not to worry though! Remember a few years back they came out with square tomatoes(tomottos)? Well where are they now?
Ya got me on the ballistic values of a watermelon seed though*L*

Ya don't shoot the watermelons, Fubar. ###You spit the seeds. ###Anyone who didn't get into a all out watermelon seed war at least a couple times in their lives has missed one of the top thrills of childhood! ###Not to mention the contests spitting for distance and accuracy.

I never got in on any spitting contests. I have seen people shoot a few watermelons though. Seems like a waste to me. I like food too much to waste it. ### ### ### ### ### ### ###Fubar
What's with this melon comparison stuff? One person says their melons are square another says their's are oblong and yet another says their's are perfectly round.
Melons take on whatever shape they find themselves in.
Be content with your own melons. The melons are not always greener on the other side. However melons do grow when you water them. Melons need lots of sunshine and water, plus they need to be turned once in a while to make sure they don't develop a flat spot. ###

For $10,000 dollars you can have your melons any size, shape or firmness you desire!
But you can always tell the real melons from the fake melons. You just give the melon a good thump with your finger. A ripe melon will respond with a nice warm note and it might even thump back. A fake or green melon will sound kind of tinny when you thump it.

Last time I thumped what I thought were real melons, I didn't get a nice note or anything...just a backhand across my nose. ###
Sorry..couldn't help myself.
As any plant lover will tell you, you have to talk to your melons to get the best out of them. You also have to keep the soil turned over so that your melons can get the nutrients they need. Care for and cherish your melons and they will respond and reward you for your efforts. Nothing like a good melon on a summer day....... ripe, luscious and bursting with flavor straight from the vine! Ummm....mmmm.

Speck,
As soon as I saw Jay's post, I thought to myself, "I know where this one is going." ###I laughed out loud at your post. ###Fubar's, too.
Regards,
Paul
Speckmisser,
You gotta make sure the vine knows you're in it for the long haul before you check the melons. After all, the melons are just the fruit on the vine. You "dis" the melons and you "dis" the vine. You "dis" the vine and as the saying goes: "hell hath no fury...". ###

Dangit, Jay! ###Now you tell me.
Man, I sort of remember something about not thumping the cow if the melons are free... ###I never could keep these things straight!
But I tell you this...I won't be thumping no square melons, that's for danged sure!
That's okay but you gotta realize that square melons won't roll around in the fridge.

I dunno, Jay, but I think we're about to learn more about you than we really wanted to know. ###
Just what do you know about melons rolling around in the fridge? ###And was the light on or off? ###And finally, were these alleged melons spiked? ###
I fully endorse reveling in the melons you've been given. Not envying someone else's melons but thoroughly savoring and enjoying your own.
To find enjoyment and satisfaction in the things I am given in life is a virtue that I hope to attain. I've spent so much time analyizing what might happen, and replaying what did happen, that I've often missed the good things right in front of me.
I don't want to do that anymore.
Excuse me, I've got some watering to do....... ###

Melons happen.
It's a part of life. A good part, I might add.
