So sadly I didn't kill anything my first fall in AK. Of course that will change in 2009. I have a drop hunt booked already so hopefully I'll have some "glory" pics to share with you all, but until then....
I flew back to WY in Oct to do a little hunting:
Shot this 6 pt bull:
After I shot him he rolled all the way down the hill breaking through burnt trees. Finally he hit one that he couldn't break through. In the process he chipped a few of his points. But thats ok, I just threw the rack on the ground when I finally packed him out. He couldn't of died in a worse spot. I'll never shoot an elk again by myself.
The elk were plentiful again this year in WY:
The real reason I flew back was to help a friend on his mule deer hunt. I didn't have time to hunt for myself but that was cool. Heres some bucks we passed up:
Here is the buck we decided to take:
BUT THATS A WHOLE 'NOTHER THREAD .....
Thanks for lookin'

I recognize that bar. Hope you had fun in Homer, looks like you guys whacked some nice 'buts. Were you guys sheep and ptamigan hunting on the Kenai Peninsula? Anyway, good pics dude. I hope this summer's weather is better than last years. Feels like spring right now.

Man, that brings back some great memories. I lived there for three years, Anchorage, Eagle Creek. I ran a Midas Shop on Bragah (sorry about the spelling). Then I went to outside sales for Central Automotive Warehouse. It was a great time, single and more money than I could spend. My house was on Lake Hood.
Thanks Bro!

Great pics of some beautiful country!!
Congrats on the bull. You threw the rack on the ground...does that mean you just left it there?

waldo,
We sheep hunted in the talkeetna mountains. Saw a lot of sheep just no legal ones. Sure did learn a lot though. The ptarmigan are from around turnagain pass. Got a couple the only time I've seen them this winter.
Richard,
I love it here so far. Hopefully I'll put a few critters on the ground this fall.
Deerslam,
Yes I left the rack in the hills. Figured thats what the bull would of wanted. Theres only so many racks you can have laying around the house. It was an any elk tag so I didn't have to have proof of sex attached.

Nice pics, have fun in AK. Don't forget about the sitka blacktail on Kodiak and in the Southeast. That would be a great way to kick off your season next year!

Ah come on now, someone named younghunter couldn't have that many racks around the house.

Im sure hoping for a Kodiak Mt goat tag. Will try to get a deer or two if I draw the goat tag.
Deerslam,
I registered younghunter when I first got on this website years and years ago. Im 24 now. Old as hell. When Im 50 I'll still have that login name. So far I've harvested almost 20 elk so the racks start to add up. No big ones yet. I would of shot a cow when I was back the day I shot that bull. But that was the first one out of the trees.

Location in WY
Would you share the location in WY where all the elk in the picture shown?
For a guy that dreams of someday shooting a bull elk like that I would love to see that many elk with a rifle in my hands and a tag in my pocket.
