Default Pictures from 2007 hunt

I forgot all about the still photo card in my camcorder, and just copied the pictures to a disc. I am somewhat surprised by the poor quality, but then again, many of them were taken with the digital zoom at max distance.

Here is a kudu that I passed on later in the trip, as I had already shot one. This one was much bigger and my friend shot him a day or two after these pictures were taken,

Here's a gemsbok I really wanted to shoot, but my PH, David, said that she shouldn;t be by herself and more should be coming in. They never did, and I regret not shooting her. No idea how big she was, and I say "she" based upon how slender her horns are.

Would you have shot? She came out from behind the brush enough for a clean shot, but I was looking through the scope then and not the camera.

Here is a jackal that I would have shot, but we were waiting for bigger critters....

Here is my warthog -

This is my kudu, which was the first animal I shot on the first day. I knew I wanted a wide one, and he seemed to fill the bill. I saw several much bigger later...

My "poor man's buffalo" or blue wildebeest -

A nice red hartebeest -

Wow, those are awesome.

Were you shooting a different caliber rifle on every hunt? And if so, did you pack them with you, or did you rent some there?

It is my understanding that all of the meat harvested stays there, depending on the country? And did you have the animals mounted?

I definitely would have shot the Kudu. And the Gemsbock, lol.

I used a .358 WIn (mine that I brought with me) on the kudu, but then used my PH's .375 H&H Mod 70 Win on the rest as my gun was mis-firing. He let me use it for free.

Yeah, all the meat is used there. Some gets sold to make biltong and to help keep the costs of the hunt down. Some goes to the crew, of course. I just had the warthog done as a shoulder mount to go with my Calif. boar and my NM javelina. The others I had done as European mounts.

Oh wow, OK Cool.

Did you use a taxi there? Or did you have it done locally? How long is does a safari like that take?

We hunted for 7 days. We ended up using a taxidermist there, but I don't know that I would do that again. I might just get the skins tanned as rungs or just bring photos home - the savings could pay for a return trip!
