Placer County Anterless hunt. Hunters need to speak up to fight PETA
DFG has requested help regarding the Placer County Antlerless hunt. They have received over 60 letters against the hunt and maybe 3 for the hunt. It would be great if some youth hunters could attend the meeting and speak about why they want the hunt to continue. If us hunters don't stand up now the hunt could be gone.
Let's

Jesse
Is it possible to write a letter to be read at the meeting? If not, would it help to write a letter anyway? If they received 200 letters for the hunt, maybe it would be brought up at the meeting even if protesters outnumbered those in favor. You got an address to send letters to?

email address to send support
As many of you know, the squeeky wheel gets the greese (attention.) If you support or don't support an increase in the does harvested as a management tool employed by the Department of Fish and Game, please send a letter indicating that to:
Josh Huntsinger at JHuntsin@placer.ca.gov
The DFG proposal will go infront of the Placer County Fish and Game Commission on Wednesday, August 26th. Therefore, it is important that you send something soon.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks for all your help Jesse and others. Below is what we sent out to our members. We also sent a letter to Placer County officials and will be at the hearing next Wednesday to provide testimony in support.

Support Needed for Placer County Deer Hunt Proposal
The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) strongly urges interested hunters to attend the Placer County Fish and Game Commission's meeting in Auburn on the evening of August 26th to urge support for an antlerless deer hunt proposed by the Department of Fish and Game. Specifically, the proposal would modify the existing J17 apprentice deer hunt to increase the tag quota range from the current 5 to 25 tags to 5 to 75 tags.
The proposed change would not only provide additional hunting opportunities in the D4 Zone for youth hunters, but also help to better manage local deer populations by improving doe/buck ratios and reducing deer/vehicle conflicts. In addition, a portion of the hunt would likely be incorporated into the SHARE Program to provide new public hunting opportunities on private land.
Anti-hunting groups are currently trying to block the proposed hunt, which has garnered widespread media attention. Hunters need to attend the meeting to show the Commission and the general public that there is strong local support for increased deer hunting opportunities and necessary deer management.
The meeting will begin at 7:00PM on Wednesday, August 26th, in the Planning Commission Hearing Room, located at 3091 County Center Drive (at the corner of Bell Road and Richardson Drive) in Auburn.

The Placer County F&G Commission voted 4-3 to approve the proposed hunt. Our understanding is the hunt will go forward next fall unless the Placer County Board of Supervisors holds a hearing and then votes to pass a resolution objecting to the hunt.
