We gotta cap the file size so folks don't swamp our server with huge pic files. You can get almost any big pic that has a busy background in under 500k most times.
Make sure your camera is not storing the pics as .bmp files. These are way over bloated files, use .tiff, .raw or .jpg to store pics.
If you're really into doing it right, store your pics at the highest resolution in .tiff, or .raw so you can print them anytime and then edit the ones you want for web or email down to .jpg files. Always save the master in .tiff, or .raw and back up, back up, BACK UP! Most pics are a one time deal, no mulligans.
