G5 Optix Sights Hit the Target

It sometimes seems as if there are as many bow sights out there as there are bow hunters. Choosing the right sight for your bow is a challenge. When looking at bow sights the main features I look for are solid construction, light weight, durable finish, bright pins and micro-adjustability. The G5 Optix, 5-pin sight has combined these into the total package bow sight.

At first look, the Optix sight looks solid and well made. The machining is clean and smooth. G5 uses magnesium for the body of the sight instead of aluminum, which makes for an incredibly lightweight sight. A glare reducer is machined into the sight frame, giving it an extra sleek appearance.
The adjustment mechanism is easy to operate. Raising and lowering the pins takes a quick turn to the locking screw and then the adjustment screw. Adjusting the windage and elevation requires loosening the locking screws and turning the adjustment knobs.
The fiber optic pins are bright and easy to see during low light conditions. When conditions get too dark, such as under a heavy canopy of vegetation, the Optix sight has a “light chamber” which houses the tag ends of the fiber optic pins. The sight light is screwed into the chamber. When it is turned on, the glow from the light is hidden inside the chamber. All of the light is transmitted to the pins.
I used the G5 Optix sight during the entire 2006 deer and elk season and found it to be extremely reliable in both performance and adjustability. The price on the street is about $130. If you are looking for a new sight, give the Optix a try.
