Preserving a Memorable Hunt

The thrill of a successful hunting trip is one of the most memorable yet indescribable feelings that you can experience. The best way to preserve the memory of your trophy is to get a couple of good photos. Taking photos of your harvest is usually an afterthought and is done while pulling the animal out of the truck or while in the middle of preparing the animal for the freezer. While these types of photos are genuine, there are a couple of steps one can do to preserve and fully show off all that the trophy has to offer. Below are a couple of ideas and suggestions to keep in mind next time you haul one in from the field.
- Place the sun behind the camera
- Zoom in. While capturing background is desirable too, make sure you also get a close-up of the hunter and the animal. Fill the entire frame.
- Clean off as much blood and dirt as you can.
- Sit behind the animal. Don’t straddle the animal, allow the entire animal to be in the photograph, and you sit or kneel behind it.
- Don’t let the tongue hang out the side. Reposition it inside the mouth or cut it off.
- Hold the head up without holding/blocking too much of the antler or the base.
- Keep the background natural. No trucks, gear, or man made distractions to take away from the animal and its environment.
- Keep the camera on an even plane or slightly lower (angled up) according to the animal's eyes.
- Take plenty of photos.
Preserve Those Memories A great photo is a the perfect way to keep the memories fresh and share a trophy with friends for years to come. |
