View Full Version : A question for Mass. hunters

Many many moons ago...my Grandad and some Uncles helped form a dog huntin club called the Lonycut(sp)Beagle Club in Attleboro. They held field trials and events year-round.They also held game suppers as a yearly event,of which I was able to attend once in the early 70's.The cookin was fabulous and I never had wild game prepared in the ways it was prepared then since. My Grandparents moved here to Maine in "72",and he never spoke again of this club.I was curious if any of you good folks have ever heard of this club and could give me some info on it.Gramps been gone over 10 yrs,but my love for the song of a beagle or hound comes from the stories he told me in my youth. Thanks in advance.

Hey, Moose..

I haven't heard of it (maybe cause I'm young and good looking http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-cool-shades-down.gif ) I passed the question on to the old timers at my current club, and will pass it along to the beagle club here in town... believe it or not I have a beagle club in my town, go figure, LOL. That sounds like one of those specialized deals that they may have some info on...

O.k.- the old timers at my club seem to think that the beagle club in (North?) Attleborough bought land in Cumberland R.I. and reinvented themselves, but the jury is still out...

I'll try and pop into the local Beagle guys this weekend and ask... If I hear anything, I'll let you know-

Got the following back from one of the guys at my club:

The beagle club is located on Nate Whipple Highway. Rte 146 get off at the Anchor Subaru light and head down to Manville, cross over the Blackstone river on Manville Hill road, go all the way to the end and turn right onto Mendon Road (rte 122 Cumberland RI) and take a quick left just before the bank. This is the beginnning of Nate Whipple Highway. At this point it is around 5 miles or so on the right side. There is a small white sign, Beagle Club Hope that this helps.

Not sure yet, but this jives with what I was told last night. keep ya posted-
