I know woodseye has been busy upgrading his scopes and Quilly is pretty much nonstop with trading, buying, selling, all sorts of stuff. How about you? Any off season hunting purchases? Got anything in mind? DL

I just purchased a Bushmaster Varminter Ar15. The purpose will be coyote hunting and target shooting only. I am very impressed with this gun. Im looking at Leupold scopes for it now, I robbed one off my muzzle loader to get by for now.

You sound like you're just trying to get the truth out of someone. I bought a 4-wheeler a month ago. I always swore I'd never own one, ride one, or take a deer out on one. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-rolleyes-green.gif
I do need it for hauling bear bait, maybe for hauling bear stands, and maybe for dead bears, and just maybe for BIG deer.
And I thought getting old would be easy, you gotta work at it every day.

Brownie...did you keep the Beagle jacket or send it back for a new color?? I won't pick on you anymore if you decided to keep it. In fact, it is snowing like a blizzard here and we're going for a walk....it would be nice to hang that jacket on the front door as a beacon. http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-wavin-yel.gif

Of course I kept it. I thought some flatlander friend of mine might get stuck in a small snowstorm sometime and need it.
I understand that you got a few inches of snow down there, maybe it will remind you of what your poor old dad has to live with each year so you'll have a place to hunt.!!!

Keep shoveling my friend, I'll be right out there with you, the weatherman says we MIGHT get 3 inches!! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-dancin-red.gif Brownie

Well, when I moved to AZ 6 years ago, from "the County", I sold, gave away, and trashed everything, until I had a pickup load. Yes, including my guns http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-hitting-self.gif Anyway, with a new state (drastically different), new job, new wife, and new baby, I got a little side tracked for a few years. I have just started to re-arm. A new (used) bow on the way, new smoke-pole, and a new flyrod. Everything cheap, this go round - as I get back into it, I'll upgrade the things I like the most http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-bag-on-head.gif

Picked up a unfired, in the box, Browning Model #71 (a copy of the Winchester Model #71) in .348 Winchester caliber. That will be enough to keep my fillings loose once I get aroung to sighting it in. Also picked up a knife from Bob Jolley in Montana. He uses 0-1 steel - the same as Randall, but his heat treating seems to allow a better edge for the blade.

Problem with buying new stuff is you run out of excuses real fast!

By the way did you see the new advertisement for French surplus World War II rifles - "Unfired! Dropped only once!" http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif

you found yourself i nice toy! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smiley-biggrin-aqua.gif i found a used one in lovell maine. it was a grade III with gold inlays in it in 348win.felt like a glove. i got him down to $900.00.
let me know how she shoots.
- but now i am looking at a variX-III 1.75-6 like DLukes for my 35whelen.
- also looking inot the weaver pivot mounts that flip the scope to one side if i need my lyman peep sights.
- now looing at getting a 223rem or maybe a 22-250 as a plinker/ yote gun.

That's a good price for a used Hi-Grade Model #71. I have one but it has always seemed too preety to bust through a swamp with. (Not that I haven't done it!). With the Grade 1, I won't have that phobia.

We seem to share a prediliction for the Big Bores. You referenced you're .35 Whelen; I've got a .350 Remington Magnum, essentially a .35 Whelen in a short package.

You also mentioned in another post a gun club in Marshfield. Is that Mass. or Maine?
