Fish and Wildlife Officer applicants sought

OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (WDFW) Enforcement Program is seeking qualified applicants for Fish and Wildlife Officer positions across the state.

Applications may be submitted from Jan. 8, 2003 until 5 p.m., Feb. 19. A significant number of vacant officer positions have arisen because of recent retirements and promotions.

To qualify for consideration, applicants must:

Be able to read and write English
Hold U.S. citizenship
Be qualified to lawfully possess a firearm
Be willing to accept a duty station anywhere in the state
Hold a bachelor’s degree in a natural resource science or criminal justice; or a two-year college degree and either two years of paid, full-time fish or wildlife experience, or two years of paid, full-time, fully commissioned law enforcement experience that includes successful completion of the Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy or its equivalent.
Fish and Wildlife Officer applicants are subject to physical, written and oral tests. Successful applicants are placed on a ranked register and are referred from the register as position vacancies occur statewide. Candidates on the register are required to undergo psychological testing, polygraph examination, thorough background investigation, a medical examination and a final interview before being offered a position.

Candidates remain on the register for 12 months unless hired. Those not hired at the end of the 12-month period may request to remain on the register for an additional 12 months.

Application packets may be obtained by calling the WDFW Enforcement Program at (360) 902-2932, or by visiting either the WDFW Enforcement Program office on the first floor of the Natural Resource Building, 1111 Washington St. SE, in Olympia, or the state Department of Personnel, 600 South Franklin St., Olympia.
