Hunting and Fishing License Sales System Now Includes Increased Availability of Retail Sales Agents - Public Meetings scheduled to determine further changes

Social Circle, Georgia - An announcement last January by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division regarding a new contract for a real-time system for selling hunting and fishing licenses through the Internet raised many concerns among sportsmen and long-time license agents. In an effort to ease such concerns, DNR worked with the authorized system manager, Central Bank, and developed an amendment to the contract broadening the available sales methods for hunting and fishing licenses.

The new Electronic Georgia Licensing (EGAL) system, expected to be available January 1, 2009, will now offer increased sales availability by allowing current license agents statewide the opportunity to continue selling hunting and fishing licenses. In order to share information about this new system and provide the public an opportunity to comment on any other perceived license system concerns, DNR will host a series of three "town hall" public meetings.

"The newly revised contract provides the opportunity to keep current hunting and fishing license agents, making it easier for Georgia sportsmen," said Dan Forster, Division Director. "Georgia's hunters and anglers will be able to purchase their license on-line, by phone and at many of the same local places where they did before."

A series of three informative "town hall" type public meetings regarding this issue are planned in North, Middle and South Georgia. During these meetings, Division personnel will present information about the license system changes and improvements and sportsmen and women will have an opportunity to share their concerns on any additional perceived licensing concerns. Participants will be encouraged to offer solutions. Following is a list of meeting dates and locations (all meetings will be at 7 p.m.):
