Cabela’s Kicks Off Grand Opening Events In Reno, Nev. With Unveiling Of Signature Bronze Sculpture, January 26


January 25 – February 3, 2008 Festivities to Include Celebrities and Hunting, Fishing Experts

RENO, NEV. (January 2008) -- Cabela’s, the World's Foremost Outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is planning its Grand Opening activities January 25 – February 3, 2008 at its new 125,000-square-foot, large-format superstore in Reno, Nev. The 10-day festivities will feature celebrities and hunting and fishing experts sharing stories and advice.

Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and Cabela’s officials will be on hand at 3:15pm, Saturday, January 26 to unveil an original signature bronze sculpture, created by Nevada-born artist Douglas Van Howd. Van Howd is known worldwide for his wildlife and western art creations, which capture life-like detailed styles that enhance the grace and movement in his work. Since 1988, he has been commissioned to place monumental sculptures worldwide in museums, resorts, corporate grounds, city sites and private estates. Van Howd’s studio, Sierra Sculpture, Inc., is in Auburn, Calif.

Special guests attending the Grand Opening will include hunting and fishing authorities, expert dog trainers, authors and wildlife artists. In addition, Cabela's Gun Library will display special firearms, on loan from the National Firearms Museum, used in classic TV shows and feature films. They include:

- Sharps rifle used by Tom Selleck in “Quigley Down Under”
- Colt Dragoon used by John Wayne in “True Grit”
- Winchester 1892 used by John Wayne as the Ringo Kid in the 1939 film “Stagecoach”
- Walker Colt used by Clint Eastwood as Josey Wales in “The Outlaw”
- Winchester 92 used by Chuck Connor in the TV classic “The Rifleman”
- Hawken used by Charlton Heston in “The Mountain Men”

Grand Opening giveaways and special prices on clothing and merchandise will also be offered. Customers can enter drawings to win an African safari; a New Zealand Red Stag hunt; a STIHL Chainsaw or Trimmer; an ACR MicroFix Personal Locator Beacon; a Texas Whitetail Management hunt; an Alaska fishing trip; and a trip to Crocodile Bay Resort in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica.
