Ok. ###For muley/elk/feral pig, which do you think is a better round?

Since Lane Simpson was the father of the STW, it kinda lends an aura to the STW. ###

Has anyone heard of any bullet stabilization or terminal performance issues with the new 7 mm Ultra Mag? ###That added velocity is appealing.

I thought about getting one of the Ultra mags, but lately i am leaning towrds the 7mm Winchester Short Mag. I like the ballistics, velocities, and the short action design.
My 2 cents......

.270 Winchester... whoops, that wasn't one of the choices. ###

songdog, How about the 270 WSM?? it shoots as fast as a 270 Weatherby. So many choices...:confused-yellow:

OK, one of each....:bgaqua:

wmidbrook I say you should get the 7 mm Ultra Mag. That way you can try it and let us know how you like it. ### ### ### ### ### ### ###Fubar

Yeah, too many choices these days...

I just like the idea of holding the crosshairs on hair out to 400+ yds--takes a bit of guess work out of things...those rangefinders don't seem to work past 400 yds unless conditions are ideal (rare). ###At least the 1000 yd bushnell ###I used didn't.

My brother-in-law's in the market for a new gun for elk/deer/pig and was asking me what I'd do. ###Put him on his first buck out in Wyoming this year and he borrowed my 30-06 to bag it. ### But I'll be sticking with my '06 for a few more years.

I was surprised to see them make a short .270. ###Most of the other calibers have had short versions for quite some time (7mm-08, .308, 358, etc.) but the .270 seemed to be out there by itself. ###Maybe it was just too good to change? :wink-yellow:

You know me, I'm the traditional cartridge, "normal speed" kind of round guy. ###I shoot a lot of Ruger #1s so the whole short/long action benefit is pretty much a wash for me. ###I do love that .270 Winchester though...
