Due to the 9/11/01
attack there is no access to Fort Leonard Wood for civilian hunting or
fishing until further notice. MPs say firearms hunting is definitely
out this year. Bowhunters will have to report to the Outdoor Rec center
for more info.
Hunting. Hunting rules are as specified in the Missouri Wildlife Code. Special hunts may be conducted as authorized in coordination with Missouri Department of Conservation. Public announcement will be made. Quotas on permits for Spring Turkey, Fall Turkey and Firearms Deer (including Any-Deer) Seasons are set annually by the Fort Leonard Wood Conservation Council. The immediate areas of Penn's Pond and Bloodland Lake (within 50 feet of water) are continuously open for hunting. You can hunt deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, coyotes and hogs on the Fort. You can also trap on the Fort.
Those portions of the Fort Leonard Wood Military Reservation available for hunting and fishing are shown on the current Fort Leonard Wood Hunting and Fishing Map available at the Outdoor Recreation Center. All persons going into the field must be thoroughly familiar with the boundaries and limitations shown on this map.
Areas not needed for training and open to hunting and fishing will be determined by the Directorate of Plans, Training and Mobilization. Entry into areas not opened is prohibited for all recreational activity except as specified. Information concerning areas open and closed may be obtained at the Outdoor Recreation Center or by telephoning a 24-hour recorded message at (573) 596-4224. Because training schedules may change on daily basis, information concerning areas open and closed must be obtained on the day of entry.
Fee Schedule. All persons hunting and/or
fishing on Fort Leonard Wood must first obtain the Sportsman's permit
and each stamp as applicable in the fee schedule below. You must also
have a Missouri small game license. All permits and stamps will be
obtained in person in order to view the Safety/Public Awareness
Orientation Video prior to purchasing the post permit. Children under
age 6 are not required to obtain the Sportsman's permit or receive the
safety and information briefing; however, the parents or guardians of
such children shall ensure that their children comply with this
regulation. The permits and Orientation video are available Tuesday
through Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Please call or E-mail the center

The Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC) rents a variety of camping, boating and sports equipment. They sell Missouri State and Fort Leonard Wood Hunting and Fishing permits.
Fort Leonard Wood hunting and fishing permits, along with the applicable Missouri permit, are required on the Reservation (except when fishing in the Big Piney River). Hunting and fishing permits are valid from March 1 through the last day of February next following of the year for which they are issued. Permits are issued at the Outdoor Recreation Center.
Persons born on or after 1 January 1967, including full-time active duty military personnel, are required to pass a Hunter Safety Education Course before being issued a Fort Leonard Wood firearms hunting permit.

**Persons who were issued a FLW Turkey Hunting Stamp for the Spring Firearms Season are exempt from purchasing the Fall Firearms Turkey Hunting Stamp but must have their spring turkey hunting stamp validated before hunting turkeys with firearms during the fall season.
Authorized Weapons. Authorized weapons are as indicated in the Missouri Wildlife Code with the following additional restrictions.
a. Shotguns of .410 gauge through .10 gauge are
authorized firearms in all areas announced open for hunting. The .410
gauge is not legal for deer hunting.
b. Rimfire rifles, .22 caliber, are authorized in all areas announced
open for hunting.
c. Muzzleloading rifles, shotguns and pistols are authorized in all
areas announced open for hunting. Missouri Wildlife Code must be
followed on bore, projectile and other restrictions.
d. Centerfire (high power) rifles, centerfire pistols and rimfire
pistols are at all times prohibited for use in hunting and fishing.
There use is authorized at the designated privately owned weapons
range, and for supervised shooting programs and special recreational
shooting events sponsored by the appropriate installation
unit/organization on approved ranges.
e. Starter pistols incapable of firing ball ammunition may be carried
and used in training of hunting dogs in areas open for hunting.
f. Crossbows may be used in accordance with Missouri Wildlife Code and
are authorized in all areas announced open for hunting, including the
firearms deer season.
